Labor Day in Seattle means Bumbershoot for most, but if you prefer to choose your own adventure and stray from the crowds, spend an intimate evening at THE RUMBLE: SEATTLE and get a chance to see an act everyone is talking about - DALE EARNHARDT JR JR and local star in the making, MESITA @ the Havana Social Club in Capital Hill.
THE RUMBLE is ushering in fall with a bit of NASCAR minus the rednecks, but fear not there will be plenty of beer. We’re stoked to have the much buzzed about DALE EARNHARDT JR. JR. traveling through THE RUMBLE SEPTEMBER as their aptly titled, Horse Power EP is a layered, textual full of shimmering beat laden gems like “Nothing But Our Love.” The Detroit based duo of Josh Epstein and Daniel Zott, have long been on the scene, with a Moby remix under their belt, DALE EARNHARDT JR. JR. are poised for the release of their full length later this year.
These guys keep racking up the love with a recent Daytrotter Session and shout outs from everyone including, CMJ, Pitchfork, Magnet Magazine and Altered Zones declaring their love for “Simple Girl,” writing, “I wonder how I’ve made it through thousands of mornings without this song.” Plus their dreamy cover of The Beach Boy’s “God Only Knows” is bound to end up on episode of Big Love sometime soon; we just know it. This mash-up of electro beats, drum machines and elements of psych-folk, make DEJJ the preeminent soundtrack to the hazy end of summer.
The brainchild of Colorado native James Cooley, MESITA is a one man sound making machine who’s already captured the attention of Seattle tastemakers like Sound on the Sound and Andrew Matson at the Seattle Times, writing, “Mesita treats guitars like mandolins on “Your Free Spirit,” flicking his wrist through chords and melodic figures so tightly, it’s almost like he’s vibrating instead of strumming. Folding in bass, drums, and layers of his own falsetto vocals, [he] approximates a staid bossanova, a multi-textured thrum that’s not so much a groove as a suspension, and does it all by himself, stacking tracks on top of each other.” Layered and multi-textured, MESITA reminds us of Oberhofer (another one man show) with shades of Grizzly Bear, making this barely legal musician a must see.
